To unlock the car using your key fob, press the unlock button on it several times in quick sequence. The door locks will lock and a red light will start to flash. If it doesn't, the battery in your key fob could be dead and need replacing. Alternately, RF interference from nearby buildings could interfere with your system.

Another nifty feature is that certain key fobs are equipped with a physical key to unlock the car (often only for the door of the driver, but sometimes also for the boot). They are usually accessible by flipping up a flap on the fob, or by pressing a button on the case. The key can then be removed from the slot of the case to open the lock.

Key fobs can be damaged by water particularly when the chips are exposed to soapy or salty water. In some instances chips that are damaged can cause key fobs to stop functioning. If this occurs, the key fob needs to be replaced - typically by the dealer. However, locksmiths are able to offer replacement keys much faster than dealers, and at a much lower cost.

Door Locks

The Peugeot 3008 remote system enables you to lock or unlock your car by pressing the button on your key fob. Contrary to the traditional key, which has a key hole that is physical, this key fob stores a hidden electronic copy of the car key inside.

It does this by utilizing the radio signal which is only transmitted when the key is in an appropriate distance from the car. When the signal is recognized by a solenoid, the door lock transforms the electronic signal into an action mechanical. This moves a rod that opens the door lock exactly like the turning of a key in a physical lock would do.

There are many possible causes for a Peugeot keyfob that is not locking or unlocking your car. Most likely is an unresponsive coin battery which can be replaced in minutes. Other causes include worn buttons water damage, signal interference or a faulty electronic chip.

The key fob in modern cars is not an exception. Modern vehicles require an extremely high level precision in order to operate. Key fobs can be programmed incorrectly, or may have an issue with the hardware that stops it from responding to a signal from the vehicle. A locksmith certified by the ICRC can reprogram your key fob in order to ensure it is compatible with the vehicle.

Immobiliser

Peugeot was among the first manufacturers to install an immobiliser into the key. The chip prevents the car from starting if it detects an error in the signal sent from the key to the car. If it's new, this is great but as they age the chips will wear out and cause issues. It usually starts with an error message that says 'anti-theft system active' on the dashboard, or a warning light lit up stating "immobiliser fault".

Typically, Peugeot dealerships are called to create and programme replacement keys. However a professional mobile locksmith comes with dealer-standard equipment inside their van, which means they can be with you and creating new Peugeot keys at the side of the road or at home much quicker than a dealership would be capable of.

Generally Peugeot keys begin to exhibit issues when the blade of the key wears out. This wear could cause the mouth of the key to fit into the lock properly, causing further wear on the locks. The issue can be fixed by simply replacing the blade. It could also be beneficial to have the teeth of the key repaired to enable them to operate more efficiently. This is something only a fully trained auto locksmith can accomplish, but it can save you a lot of hassle and expense in the long run.
